The Songs

Fifty-Five Songs Unearthed from the Time Capsules

There are fifty-five Stumpy songs discovered in the two Time Capsules.

Within the Watney’s Party Seven can, there was an old Memorex cassette tape of thirty-three songs and tunes, recorded by Stumpy on his Waltham cassette recorder. After being transcribed and tabulated for vocals and acoustic guitar (just like Stumpy and I used to do as punk rockers in the late ’70s), the songs were then recorded by Stumpy Sanderson’s 1970s Acoustic Archive. As well as some of them being heard at the end of the podcasts, they are available via the YouTube channel, and many of them feature in my live performances.

Songs found in the First Time Capsule are: Main Stumpy Theme; Neverending Smile; Nostalgic Bus Journey; Communist Genius; Spud Gun Wars; Song for Puffer (Great Thespian); When We Rode Into Town; The Small Stand Tall; Flight of The Sparrow; Whistling Five; There’s Gonna Be Fireworks; The Mighty Chin; Dark Arts; Slippery’s Greyhound; Bring ‘Em Down Boys; Runners Two; Those Big Bad Milton Sisters; When We Were Punk; Tyrants’ Fall; (The Runs Of) Dribbling Peter; Mexico ’70; Gordon, Immediate Launch; Platform Shoes; Snowball; Creepy Creeping Gilbert; Steamship; Freight Train Rollin’; Grokhot; Aztec Gold; Wimpy Bar; Stumpy Forever!; Thoze Things Wot We Dun; Years Gone By.

Songs from the Second Time Capsule

Within the Courage Jackpot can, there was an old TDK cassette containing a further twenty-two of Stumpy’s songs, again recorded on his trusty Waltham cassette recorder. Together with songs from the first Time Capsule, many of these songs are also performed live on stage.

Songs found in the Second Time Capsule are: Stumpy Night Fever (Saturday Night Stumpy); Psychedelic Toy Cupboards; Oracles Of Our Youth; The Fastest Gumbo In The West; The Flight Of The Pink Zeppelin; The Punk Duff Experience; Sensational Seventies Supper; Cigarettes Francaises; Wainwright & Singh; The Bonfire Of The Dr Scholl Sandals; Seventies International Superstar; Messing Around On The Banks Of Marsworth Canal; Dreamers And Renegades; Stomping Old Man Macready; He Wishes He Was Captain Scarlet; Mighty Bedford Trucks; Cresta Boys; Gordon’s TV; Waiting For The Old Days To Come Back; We Followed The Stranglers; Space Hopper Supermarket Incident; Mrs Butterfield’s Carpet.

The Soundtrack to Stumpy’s 1970s World

From iconic 1970s foodstuffs, fashion and toys to comic adventures, playground legends and local villains, to punk rock, glam rock and suburban life, the songs provide a unique musical companion and soundtrack to the Stumpy stories.

Some are funny. Some are nostalgic. Some are downright bizarre.

All of them help bring the 1970s world of Stumpy Sanderson and gang to life.

You can hear selected songs in the first series of storytelling podcasts, on the YouTube channel and during my live performances.
